But what about School Communicators Day? I’m willing to bet that as a school communicator, you’re celebrating these special recognition days but may have let School Communicators Day slip through the cracks. (It’s held on the second Friday in May, in case you didn’t know!)
You’re probably thinking, “Andrea, absolutely not. I’m not going to post about myself!” I’ve heard this more times than I can count when this discussion comes up inside my membership group, every year around this time!
I know it can be difficult to toot your own horn. Most School PR Professionals I meet are humble people who would much rather showcase others than draw attention to themselves.
But you are worthy of the accolades and praise just as much as other teachers, staff, and administrators in your school!
After all, you are the magician behind your school’s social media pages, shining a bright spotlight on your students and staff. Isn’t it time you shared the limelight?
School Communicators Day is the perfect opportunity to highlight the passion, persistence, and commitment that you and your communications team bring to the table. Many in your community – and perhaps even your colleagues – have no clue how much work goes in, behind the scenes, to celebrate your school.
That’s why you and your valuable work deserve to be celebrated on School Communicators Day with your very own social media post!
I’ve compiled a few School Communicators Day post examples from school districts nationwide to encourage and inspire you. Whether you’re a communications department of one or several, I hope these examples help you craft your own meaningful social media post for School Communicators Day this year! Let’s dive in.

I love how Howard County Public School System in Maryland took the time to list out some of the many duties that its school communications team takes on. Most people have no idea what school communicators are juggling on a daily basis!
Pro tip if you want to use this idea: List the responsibilities as bullets in the post caption instead of putting them on the graphic. It gets a little busy with so much text.
Don’t Forget to Recognize Your Social Media Ambassadors and Student Interns!
If your school has communications ambassadors spread across buildings, and/or student social media interns who contribute content to help tell your district’s story, this is a great opportunity to give them a shout-out, too!
Here are some examples of how you could include them on School Communicators Day!
Check out the way Rowan-Salisbury Schools in North Carolina succinctly shouts out all their communications contributors in this caption:
Claremore Public Schools in Oklahoma combines a beautiful graphic with a fun caption to celebrate the entire communications team! I love the “aka” list.
The #SchoolPR team at Sunnyvale Independent School District in Texas wrote a great caption that’s both sincere and tongue-in-cheek (“a little shameless plug…”)
Here’s a twist: Arizona Lutheran Academy in Arizona celebrated interns by reminding people of the intern-specific hashtag. Cool!!
Naugatuck Public Schools in Connecticut celebrates the interns’ interests and talents outside of their social media responsibilities.
