School hashtags are a necessity. Most districts know that by now! But not all hashtags are created equal.
Back in 2015, I shared a blog with 10 Cool Hashtags for Schools. I’ve been meaning to publish another list of great hashtags for some time now – and today is the day!

It sounds like it could be the name of a TV show, doesn’t it? This small district in Wheaton, MN hit gold when they got their students involved in coming up with a great hashtag. It’s fun to use it within social media posts, too. Like this one: “Who is ready to start school tomorrow? WE ARE! Raise your hand if you are ready for another great year of #LifeAtThe803. - #BoostTheOost
When you can add a rhyme in the hashtag, it makes it twice as nice! Oostburg School District in Wisconsin loves sharing their story with their cool #BoostTheOost hashtag. - #MosaicOfMinds
Glendale Elementary School District in Arizona provides educational services to more than 11,000 K-8 students in 17 schools. They are “All In For ALL Kids” and celebrate their “Mosaic Of Minds.” I love this hashtag! - #OurHighlineStory
Highline Schools in Washington has an excellent mission: “Our Promise: Every student is known by name, strength & need.” It isn’t a surprise that they also have a great school district hashtag. The @HighlineSchools story is not a single story; it is comprised of multiple stories told from their staff, students and families. They use this hashtag to share those stories with the world. - #Proud2BPirates
My dear friend Melissa McConnell runs the communication efforts for Belton School District #124 in Missouri. Her hashtag is unique and is very easy to share in a sentence. It’s always great when the hashtag invokes feelings of pride! - #EdgarExcellence
Does your mission statement include one standout keyword? Include it in your district hashtag! That’s what little Edgar, WI did with their school hashtag. - #ATeam206
I’m a girl who grew up in the 80s, so of course I love a reference to the “A Team.” Alexandria, MN also has a great logo with an easy mission: “Rich Tradition. Bright Future.” - #HCPSfamily
Molly McGowan Gorsuch is promoting #HCPSFamily this year to bring teachers, staff, students, and families together on social media to show what makes HCPS an amazing place to work and learn! Her district in North Carolina is feeling the love. - #PointerNation
Many districts use the word “Nation” in their hashtag – but my list had to grab this example from my friend Joelle Doye’s district in Mineral Point, WI. They are telling a big story in their district of just 700 students. They even got someone on their staff to put it on their license plate. Check it out! - #WEareONE10
Unifying a district made up of five different communities isn’t an easy job. Waconia, MN leveraged a big rebranding initiative a few years back and it has paid off! The district hashtag is used EVERYWHERE – and it promotes what it’s like to be part of this district. - #LikeACane
The Hayward Hurricanes incorporate their hashtag into everything they do, and they get their community involved, too! I mean, when the local dentist’s office has a sign in front of their building that says “Flossing Like a Cane” – I think you’ve made it! Sandi Barry, Public Relations Coordinator for Caroline County Public Schools in Maryland, shared why she loves their school district hashtag: “We are a small rural school system with agriculture in our soul! Our logo has leaves and our colors are shades of green and yellow, so the hashtag is perfect in so many ways.” I love this! - #AvonExperience
Avon Community School Corporation in Indiana has the tagline “Educate. Excite. Excel.” They also want to share the experiences of all their staff and students. What a perfect hashtag! - #MiddieRising
Wrapping up our list is a hashtag suggestion from Elizabeth Beadle, Communications Director at Middletown City Schools in Ohio. She describes their hashtag with these words: “We’re in this together. We’re better together. We’re one together. We rise together. We are #MiddieRising.” I ? it!
