8 Podcasts to Help Your School’s Social Media

I was a single mom without a job.

I had a mortgage payment and two daughters to support.

I loved social media and I dreamed of starting a business. I wanted to help others use social media to market their businesses. It was a job that I could do from home and would allow me to really help people!

There was only one problem. I had no idea how social media worked for marketing…

I had a degree in chemistry with a business emphasis and an MBA. I had 13 years of experience in corporate America – but none of that was in digital or social media marketing!

In other words, I had a dream burning in my heart but zero experience and zero budget to pay someone to teach me how to do it!

So what did I do?

I soaked up as much free education as I could! One of the biggest self-education tools I turned to was podcasts.

I could share hundreds of podcast episodes that have helped me build my knowledge base and my business into what it is today, but because my blog focuses on helping K12 schools manage social media, today I want to share 10 awesome podcasts that will inspire you in your role.

I know you can relate to my story above. Maybe not to the “single mom without a job” part, but definitely to the one-person PR shop with little-to-no budget for personal development! And you might not have any training at all in social media marketing for schools.

In no particular order, here is my list of podcasts that you should check out. Turn your car into a classroom and start listening! You will get inspired by school-specific stories, examples, and tactics that you can use in your district.

Breaker Society This is a podcast about those in the education space breaking the status quo. In each episode, Shane Haggerty, president of the Purposeland Agency in Columbus, Ohio, talks to unique folks who keep our world moving forward. He just completed his third and final season of the podcast, but it’s still worth the listen! Shane is a friend and mentor to me in school PR. I’m sure you recognize his name from a few #SocialSchool4EDU webinars and blogs! Check out his latest episodes and tune into more of my story on Season 1 – Episode 7.(And no – I’m not featured on every one of the podcasts that I share below!)
Sparkwheel This podcast is from the amazing team at Captivate Media + Consulting, which is led by Jake Sturgis, APR. Their conversations with leaders cultivate curiosity, question the status quo, and help clear the way to do education better.
School PR Podcast with Ryan Foran This podcast from school PR veteran Ryan Foran will educate and inspire you in the work you do at your school. He has dozens of episodes to choose from, so listen in!
Reimagine Schools Hosted by Dr. Greg Goins, the Reimagine Schools Podcast features many of the nation’s top educators, authors, and innovators in PK-12 education with an emphasis on leadership development, scaling innovation, and transforming our school systems.You can listen in on an episode with me if you want – but there are so many other great interviews! Seriously, check this one out.
SchneiderB.fm Brendan Schneider is a master at school marketing. His focus is mostly on private schools, but his content can be applied to any school district! Check out his podcast and his helpful blogs, especially if you are looking for some advanced inbound marketing strategies. He is actually going to be featured on my free webinar in May 2020, so I recommend getting registered now! He’s going to cover inbound marketing for schools.
SchoolPR Happy Hour This podcast is a place for school PR professionals to come together and share tips, tricks, and best practices. It is hosted by two incredible school communicators: Justin Dearing and Erin McCann, CPC. Check it out!
Social Media Schoolhouse My friend Jason Wheeler hosts this podcast, where he shares tactical advice for your social media efforts at your school. Check it out!
