Summer break may have already started at your school or is about to start very soon. So the questions I get all the time are:
What can I post on social media over the summer?
How often do I have to post over break?
The school building is a busy place, even during the summer. But you may not work year-round, so managing your social media from offsite can get tricky.
Well, this offsite management is a reality for our business. We manage over 30 districts across four states right now, so we always have to rely on getting photos and content from others. So let’s share some secrets!
First off, I shared 20 ideas for summer posts last year and that blog is one of our most popular. Check it out by clicking on the post below.
Now, I have dozens of other ideas too. The one I shared most recently on my Facebook Live stream was on using a postcard to gather stories from your students and staff.
Ask one simple question on a note card. For instance:
- What do you love most about this school?
- What moment will you remember most about this school year?
- What student inspires you to come to work every day and why?
- This year, I am most proud of…
- My teacher is awesome because…
They can include their name on the top – but even that isn’t critical. The point of using a notecard is to keep the response short! You can collect the cards and take photos of them to post throughout the summer. You can also create fun quote graphics, or just find an appropriate image that could accompany the story.
Another easy post idea is reflecting back on popular posts throughout the school year and sharing some metrics. #FlashbackFriday is a great time to say, “Remember the Homecoming parade last year? That rain couldn’t dampen our #ColfaxPride! This post reached over 7,000 people.”
Developing fun “caption this” photos are great too. It drives engagement. You could even get pets involved! I mean, how fun would this photo be to caption if it was a picture of your principal?!?!
OK – you have to be careful so that it won’t get inappropriate, but you get the idea!
