Social media has changed the game. I like to think mostly for the better, but of course, there are some “worse” moments too.
To think that literally every moment that happens in your school could be broadcast to the world – well, it’s a little overwhelming. And what happens can be interpreted so differently by so many people, that have no direct tie to your school!
So I’ve got a question for you…
Do you have a crisis management plan at your school? And does it specifically address social media?
If you are like most schools that I know, the answer is “no.” When an issue or crisis emerges, having a plan is only the first step. The three steps go like this:
- Plan – Have a plan in place – beforehand.
- Understand – Get all the facts before you speak.
- Take a Stand – Implement your plan – quickly.
Looking at examples from different schools is a good way to understand how this three-step approach will apply to your school.
