I’m incredibly lucky.
Besides being incredibly blessed with an awesome husband, six healthy (and energetic) kids, and a home – I have a job that I absolutely LOVE!
Since 2014, I get to wake up every day and tell the whole world about the great things happening at schools. I tell that story through social media, with a small army of account managers to help me achieve my goals. #SocialSchool4EDU now serves more than 50 schools across the country!
Celebrating over 100,000 students every single day could get a little overwhelming without this team of experts.
The photos, videos, and stories our team receives from our schools are AMAZING.
But guess what?
The negative storylines still seem to get more coverage. More coverage in the news and on social media.
It’s so frustrating!
I have accepted the fact that I can’t change the negative stories. My team and I cannot do anything about the media choosing to highlight bad things about our educators. We also cannot mute out community members that choose to blame all of the world’s problems on our schools.
But you know what else I have accepted?
I can do something.
I can continue to use this little device in my hand (yes – I’m referring to my phone) to tell the positive stories.
And I can also encourage all of our educators out there to do the same.
We have the power, if we all do a little bit every day, to make a difference.
I recently spoke at a Teach to Lead Summit in Wisconsin. My message was on the importance of using social media to tell our story. It’s all about letting people get a glimpse inside our classrooms so that they can see the incredible things happening each day.
Imagine if every teacher shared just one photo per day on platforms like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.
It would make a BIG difference.
I wrapped up my presentation with a video. Something to move them to take up this challenge.
To become a storyteller.
To change the narrative on K-12 education.
Will you take 3 minutes to watch it?
And if you are one of the brave ones, will you share it with other educators?
Our kids really do deserve it!
If you need support, training, and resources to help you along this journey, will you let me help?
I have a website FULL of resources to help schools tell their story. You can grab access to more than 200 blog articles and download helpful guides. There is also access to recorded webinars for members only. If you are interested in joining us, learn more here.
